Interesting, B29 ditching in the Pacific. WW2 or Korea? The carbine does have mag in it, not quite sure of the sight. The photo may have been mislabled, I'm not sure.....Frank

I thought we talked about this one before...I thought it was supposed to be about the time of Okinawa?? It was the argument about the bayonet and adjustable rear sight making it into WW2?? Remember that one Frank?
    Regards, Jim

Hi Jim, yes I kind of remember it. The fact that the rifle has a mag in it, would make you think it is a hostile enviromemt. Probably not the Korean War. Late WW2 more likely.

Checked again... Still think T1 rear sight since it doesn't appear to overhang the dovetail.

rpw, is it the sight or something in the pic but not part of the rifle? I enlarged it and am not sure.

    Best Regards.....Frank

I believe it's the sight. The thing that's most interesting is the barrel band. I knew they used the T1 sight throughout the war. That really wasn't a surprise. The barrel band was. I never heard of any T3 barrel bands on carbines in the field during WW2. However... there it is!

First T3 band contracts for replacement parts were in the late spring of '44. I would think that they would have made it to the repair depots before the end of the war.
I know WAR BABY! states that Inland used the T1 sight until the end of the war, but I have never seen an original looking late war Inland with this. If I recall correctly a recent CCNL on the 5 mil. block of Inlands goes into detail on rear sight use. This pic could back up either side of the story. I am pretty sure it was a pic taken of of Iwo Jima near the end of the war.

Someone posted a late war pic from the Pacific of G.I.'s in a jeep with T3 bands on their carbines. I think they might have had bayonets mounted. Would have to do a search to find it. don't have time now, will try later.....Frank

It is well-known that the bayo lug and adjustable sights were in the field before VJ Day. The bayo lug and flip sight in the picture shouldn't cause any stir, the guy wanted a bayonet so the armorer fixed him up.
