"5" marking on No4 mk1*
On my No4 mk1* there a large marking "5" on the side of the bridge. Anyone who knows what it is? Could it be a mark when the 5 groove barrel was installed? (the 303 brit marking above it, is part of the german proof stamp)

It's definately not a British marking. Is the mark you're referring to that semi circular mark beneath the 3 and B of 303 BRITISH? Or is there another distinctly clearer mark that we can't see, by the bridge (which is the part just out of shot on the right of the bodyside pic)

Sorry, I guess I used the wrong name. Should be receiver? It is the marking below the 3 and b. See new image.

The "303 British" looks like is part of a US Import mark. Maybe the "5" is associated with that.

Since it's guessing time, I'll offer mine. Someone, somewhere, for some reason, decided to stamp numbers, possibly sequentially, on his/her/their rifles and this one was 'number 5'. Other than that, I have no clue.
