US Civil Defense Bronx Police Department Helmet

Not sure what to make of this. It is a WWII issue Civil Defense helmet with a PD decal on the front and identifiers on the inside that indicate it was issued to at least two different patrol officers in the Bronx, NY.

I can't figure out if these were issued directly to the PD or they were surplused to them post war.

It was pretty dirty when I got it so I did wipe down the exterior, left the interior alone due to the handwritten markings.

I actually saw an example of one of them with the Bronx PD emblem on it, white also. I've never seen on like it before. It might be WWI. Or possibly WWII and just another manufacturer. The liner attachment is the major difference.

I found some information on that style helmet, manufactured by BF McDonald during WWII, so just a different manufacture with different liner system.
