Lee enfield bandoleers from Afghanistan, Are they an indigenous design?

I came across some pictures of Afghan soldiers and tribesmen from the early 1900s, and they all seem to be wearing distinctive bandoleers to hold their 303 ammo, with the tips of the bullets poking out. Was this bandoleer design british army issue or was it a design that was created locally in Afghanistan?

Looks more like Mauser cartridge bandoleers. 303 usually closed flap over pouches.
