Thank you all for the great information! That is why I am a member of this site!
BTW, I dropped an email to Fulton's on the off chance they have records when it was there.
They say a little knowledge is more dangerous than none, with that said, now I'd really like to find out about it's history and who had it before me.
Strangely Brown, the sling you mentioned, is that a 1903 type or is it something simpler? I have a couple of Bren gun slings (saving one for my No4 Mk1 (T) whenever it gets finished) though.

As requested. I picked up the barrelled receiver with bolt at a gunshow with this tag hanging off it. It had never been re-assembled into a rifle so was likely unfired in it's 7.62 form. I eventually sold the set to an officer I worked for, who took it to Ottawa and sold it again. Someday it would be nice to re-unite the tag with the rifle.

When I saw the DCRA conversion number of 1101, I thought I remembered seeing it before so I went rummaging through my Acquisition & Disposition book and sure enough, I imported that one on 1 July 1997. My guess is that it was a Fulton Regulated target rifle before conversion to 7.62 at CAL.

Thanks Stencollector for the pic.
Is 63 the year of conversion? Are we to assume that 1320 is the conversion number?

Yes, 1320 is the conversion number. I assume the 63 is the year. If I find my other tag I'll see if it has the same prefix.

With target sights fitted in SR"b" classification the usual sling would have been something along the lines of the Parker-Hale target sling in the image.
In say a regimental competition (SR"a) where the rifle is in its "as issued" configuration then the normal web sling would be issued, having said that I recall some some regiments like the Royal Green Jackets preferring the use of Bren slings even in the era of the SLR.
The use of the sling in SR"a" competitions was forbidden at Bisley but seems to have crept in during the 1970's.

The tag is very cool, I hope it gets reunited with it's rifle as well! Stranger things have happened around here like No4 Mk1 (T)'s getting reunited with their original scopes (I'm still on the hopeful list for mine).
Brian, that is great info. Funny thing is that makes two rifles that I have that were imported by you. To be clear, it Came from Canada when you brought it in, right? I'm guessing you are right about it being at Fulton's then going to The Great White North.
Well, they say a little knowledge is more dangerous than none. Now this makes me even more curious about it's history. Who was the person(s)would buy an almost new Mk2, send it to Fulton's, export it to Canada and get it modded into a DCRA rifle? Must have been someone(s) who shoots competitively and could afford to have all that work done. This stuff is why I'd rather acquire Enfields and other historical arms than brand new AR's that have no character.
No takers on knowing the serial number of the last Faz No4 built? I'm 'swaggin this one, UF.55 A34567 is near the end but I want to know how near.
You guys are awesome for all the info provided, thank you again!
Just got the sling info, I think it would look great with one of those.

Hello Coati,
Here is a thread from some time ago. It may or may not answer some questions you have asked. It has some good pictures and some insight.
By the way, beautiful rifle you picked up!
