Question for you WW II Air Force gurus...

    Hello:
I am looking for some assistance on a new research quest I have undertaken. I recently discovered my long time army airborne friend's grandfather wrote a book about his time as a turret gunner in WW II. His name is Bill Williams and the book was called "Five Miles High and forty Below". (Awaiting my hard to find copy from a seller on Amazon.)

I want to do some more research on his life and experiences. I located his obituary, which included rather dashing photograph of Mr. Williams. Specifically, can anyone help me identify the patches on his flight jacket...the left shoulder and the left front above the pocket?

Any assistance or references would be appreciated. Thanks.
    Mike

A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. For some reason I can't see the imagine you've linked to, links not working, but, the only 'patch' that should be on the left shoulder of a flight jacket would be the AAF insignia.
Just the thing for putting round holes in square heads.

Thanks for the info....I will continue to dig. My apologies, I did not realize the links were not working, either. I will try again.
