T-Gewehr Trigger Fail

Good Evening All,

Back from the range today and look what I found. At first, I noticed that my cases were not ejecting after extraction while shooting. Thirty rounds went down range and the T-Gewehr shot great. I thought the ejector was jammed and that was indeed the case. Then I found this as I was cleaning. Not sure if the jammed ejector caused the fail or simply metal fatigue. All else seems OK and will send my trigger to John Taylor in Idaho who is my master machinist and a wizard. Randy

Look at the bright side, you're probably the only guy to have consumed 30 rds in a T Gewehr in 100 years. Good thing you've got "A guy" to sort it. Let us know and eventually see targets or plate penetration performance...

For the record, I shot 30 rounds in about 45 minutes. At 210lbs plus 42lbs of T-Gewehr, I was able to weather the storm. No burses, no headaches, and my shoulder is fine. Most of the time, I got through 15-20 rounds at the range with no issues. Tired yes, but smiling!!

Maybe 50 years of shooting Milsurps, mostly WWI/II bolt actions, has helped me build-up some "shoulder stamina?" More than likely, just old, dumb, and happy to have the chance to own and shoot a T-Gewehr. Randy

The recoil of your T Gewehr looks to be a little stouter than my .50 BMG converted Boys ATR. When I shoot my Boys from the prone position I make sure the lugs on the bottom of the monopod have dug into the dirt which keeps the felt recoil down substantially. From the bench it's a little more noticeable.

Yes, if I had a parapet to anchor the T-Gewehr down, I would not have to handle the level of recoil you saw on the video. I am loading 190gr of Hodgdon 50BMG with a very close match of the original bullet less the steel core. Randy

The recoil I see isn't surprising nor would it be unmanageable. I shot the .55 boys without trouble too. They're heavy and that helps.

I'm wondering if you could use the penetrators from .50 cal, either the ball steel penetrators or the AP penetrators for enhanced performance...you'd have to swage a jacket on them, they would be undersize as .50 cal. Doesn't matter though...

Wow! Way beyond my small garage shop capabilities, and I would not be able to shoot that at my range. I have seen some folks doing such on YouTube and it was impressive. You got me thinking. Thanks, Randy
