    SKS serial number

Looking at a Yugoicon SKS 59/66 at the LGS and noticed that of the five serial numbers that I could see without field striping were all matching and stamped. That is all but the top of the bolt, that one was hand inscribed.

Does this mean an arsenal replaced bolt or a bubba bolt or were all the bolts inscribed instead of stamped?

    Nice looking rifle

I guess it was the bolt carrier not the bolt that displayed the serial number. Shows how much I know about Sovieticon style guns.

No worries, rifle has already been sold ... next time I will brush my teeth before asking another question (and put on deodorant).

    Sorry it got missed.

For future reference on Yugoicon guns the serial got electro penciled on a lot of various parts. What also got stamped onto a lot of parts were NATO style stock numbers. The Bolt carrier is one of the parts that got EPd, along with the bolt itself. EP'd parts I believe was done after refurbishment but can't recall 100% where I saw that or if I maybe misunderstood.

No need to apologize, I was just curious because the US rifles are electro penciled for reasons such as arsenal rebuilt M1icon Garands in the 50s and 60s. I was just wondering if this SKS was arsenal rebuilt or if bubba replaced the bolt and carrier, then etched the serial number to legitimize it.

The comments about brushing teeth and deodorant were tongue in cheek.

I was looking at mine today and wanted to add something.

Instead of a serial you may find an assembly number that won't match the serial but will be present under the barrel. On my specific gun most of the parts are matched by the assembly number, which is more roughly electro penciled, in addition to the serial, which can be engraved or an alternative type of EPing. You may also encounter initials as well for the guy who went over the gun.
