Trouble with my K98
My K98 shoots great and has no issues other than age.
But lately, it seems the bolt is almost impossible to close, I usually have to slam down the bolt to get it to close.
I have tried different ammo............no change
I have lubed the bolt and rails............no change
I have heard talk that the extractor could be bad, should I order one and try it.
Where would be a good place to order from
Thanks in advance for all replies
Bob

You said that you "lubed the bolt", but have you disassembled it cleaned it and lubed it?
Also are you single loading or allowing the round to be stripped from the magazine?

Have you thoroughly cleaned the locking lug recess area ? Seems to me the most obvious point to look for binding/stickyness would be where the friction points are.

I thoroughly stripped the bolt and cleaned and lubed it.
So far I have only single fed it, up till now, have never loaded five in the mag well yet.
But I will try and clean again the area in the recess and see if that makes a difference.
This rifle was extremely dirty and crusty when I got it. I bought it from SOG a few months back when they were selling them. Very happy with what I got, a really nice piece, but I think it may be a War survivor and has not been cleaned since then. until I got it.
Thanks again Bob

As Dad mentioned, the K98k is a controlled feed bolt, and while the extractor will jump over the rim of the cartridge, it doesn't like to. When fed from the magazine the cartridge feeds up under the extractor.

OK you have all convinced me to take it to the range and shoot it from the mag.
Like I needed an excuse to go to the range>>>>>>

Well once again I came to the experts and you gentlemen fixed it with your knowledge.
If I feed it from the mag well, it feeds fine and smoothly. Single feed was the issue.
All is well in Hooterville again.
