One of The Last Colt Model Of 1911. U.S. Army - The 1924 Transitional

Colt's Patent Firearms Manufacturing Company filled a 10,000 unit order of Model 1911 pistol for the United Statesicon Military in 1924, after which military orders were not placed again until 1937. In the interim, the official Ordnance Department designation was changed in 1927 from M1911 to M1911A1.

Even though the 1924 pistols still bore the name MODEL OF 1911 on the right slide, the pistol incorporated most of the design changes seen on the M1911A1.

    1. Shorter trigger, knurled forward face
    2. Finger relief cuts in the frame behind the trigger guard
    3. Diamond shape eliminated from grip stock panels
    4. Arched and knurled main spring housing
    5. Elongated grip safety
    6. Front sight width was increased

Serial numbers for the 1924 order ran from 700,000 to 710,000.

Mine is near the end of the run at 709211, only 789 subsequent units bore the 1911 inscription. It is near perfect excepting one BIG issue. The barrel is replaced with a WWII HS example.

Regardless, it is breathtaking to behold. Pics, enjoy, and thanks for looking.
