And now there are two (Gew.98 Carbines)

A few months ago I bought a Gew.98 (Spandau) that had been professionally cut down to a mannlicher style stocked carbine from RCArms.

Saturday at my local gun shop I found another Gew.98 (Amberg) that with the exception of the stock (nicely refinished) it is a twin to the other one. Naturally I bought it; so now I have two carbine sized Gew.98s and nary a clue as to where or when they were redone. There are no import markings anywhere on either gun.

Any clues? Receiver and barrels are matching; the rest not.

Done in Spain? Ye Olde Hunter sold these in the late 1950's-early 1960's. Painted in black? For some odd reason, many had bad/poor bores. But they did sell.

Hi, I have one of these too. I bought it a few years ago at as a surplus Mausers, but... some previous owner chopped down the front of the stock shortening it to a regular sporter shape... The odd thing is this barrel has a muzzle that looks like an original carbine. I don't know if any Gew 98's were made into cav or arty carbines. ?? I guess this is part of the surplus Mauser puzzle... Anyway, nice pictures there!
