Mark I/II Breechblock Height Issue
Good Morning All,
My firing pin is heading south toward the edge of the primer and I am needing about 25/1000ths to get it back on center. I have seen the welding/case-hardening videos and I do not have the skills, tools, or talent for that procedure. The other options open to me seems to be peening the ears and that too is a bit daunting. I could give that a go if the experts think a rookie can handle it.
If this is not a job for a rookie, I would welcome recommendations on smiths who are familiar and capable of making the modifications necessary. My '74 is a great shooter and I would like to keep it running that way.
Thanks and Happy Easter,
Randy

I wouldn't mess with it if it's still firing without fail. If you aren't getting misfires? You aren't going to shoot that much ammo considering how old is presently is compared to the past.

Thanks Jim. I do shoot a couple hundred rounds a year from the MH. Even when I go shooting with G41, G43, and Tankgewehr, I "ground" myself with the MH and at least 50 rounds. Randy

Still that's not so much, considering some of the past use of these. And it's not going to get worse from black powder rust and neglect either...
